Horse Racing Yards
There are numerous aspects of horse racing that the more casual observer of the sport might be none the wiser about. The role of the grooms in the success of the horses, for example, as well as what trainers actually do to get their horses ready for the biggest races.
Perhaps one of the biggest things that the majority of punters and horse racing lovers know nothing about is what it is that goes into the creation and maintenance of a successful yard, which is what we’re looking at in more detail on these pages.

What We Look At

Each yard is different, so there is no hard and fast rule when it comes to what we look at when exploring each of them in more detail. It is also important to note that some training yards are more open in terms of the facilities that they have, whilst others seem to have adopted a vow of secrecy when it comes to revealing what goes into the training of their horses. If the information is out there in the public domain, we will have taken a closer look at it. Then there is the fact that one of the biggest names in horse racing is more focussed on being a studding yard for horses than in training them.
The People
Each yard or training centre has its own group of people responsible for ensuring that the horses get the very best care possible, as well as making sure that they perform to the best of their ability when they head out onto the track. We have written about trainers in general in more detail elsewhere on the site, but we still give at least a passing interest to the trainers associated with each yard on the relevant pages.
The Facilities
As well as the people behind the most successful yards in the country, we also have a look at the different facilities that yards have available to them to ensure that the horses in their care get the best possible treatment prior to heading out onto the racetrack. Whilst many of the facilities will have some overlap between yards, there are also some that are given more importance by one yard over another. One may think that having numerous different gallops is the key factor, say, whilst another may feel that an equine swimming pool is the most important thing in a horse’s recovery from injury.
